Dinnertime

We had a dinner gathering last week. The main course of the meal was roast pork – brought in across the causeway from Bahrain, of course – mashed potatoes with gravy and peas. The Kids absolutely luv pork and if I do say so myself, I make a great pork roast. The Kids also like mashed potatoes and gravy. The Kids do not like peas. We have good-sized Kids – The Boy is a Great Dane and The Baby is a standard Poodle – with good-sized mouths – and very, very healthy appetites. I thought I could get kind of sneaky when I mixed some leftovers into their dishes for them and I mixed the peas into the mashed potatoes and gravy – only a heaping spoonful of peas, each – even though I know they don’t like peas – they don’t and won’t eat them unless I’ve run them through a food processor and made them into mush and they have no way to “eat around” them. I am amazed that two Kids with mouths as big as they are, and big teeth as well, are able to eat mashed potatoes with gravy around their peas and leave this:

  1. That's funny. If I hadn't seen the pictures I wouldn't have believe it. Mmm. Pork roast sounds pretty good right now.

  3. I had a poodle who would pick the peas out and make a little pile by her bowl. Of course we fed her soup with peas very often just to watch her do this.

I've been enjoying your blog for a while BTW.

  4. Thanks for stopping by, Michele!

Feeding your poor Poodle soup, often, just to watch her pick out peas is just plain, mean, Michele, but funny! "We're not laughing at you, we're laughing with you" kind of thing.

I'll have to give soup a try one of these days and see what happens. Wonder how the Kids would react to "pea soup." Now, THAT would be mean!

  5. OMG that is hilarious. My dog can do the exact same thing.

I thought she was the only one.

  6. We had a Doberman who made little piles of raisins from raisin bagels. Our current dogs are very good at eating leftover salad. They eat everything except lettuce, but will lick the dressing off each piece.

  7. You had a very, very smart Doberman, Wry. Did you know that raisins can be fatal to dogs?!? Neither did I until just a year or so ago. [Onions can also be deadly!]

The Boy has never been one to eat the things that are really good for him - you know - like peas, broccoli, carrots, etc., and certainly NOT salad. And, he's NEVER liked junk food - I cannot believe he won't eat Cheetos or peanut butter cookies! The Baby, on the other hand, until The Boy's influence rubbed off on her, would eat ANYTHING - including lettuce - if we were eating it - she'd eat it. Not anymore. "If he's not eating that, then I'm not eating that!"
