Head Count

A Saudi man, Saleh Dhibani, was beheaded yesterday. He was convicted of murdering a compatriot - he shot someone during a dispute. I think it is at sixteen. Of course I missed a couple of weeks last month. It could be more by now. It is. This says the count is nineteen.

There are some pretty hefty punishments handed out over here but frankly, I don't think this one comes anywhere near the mark. It is not enough. Good for the Mom who "demanded hardening the punishment." A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to one month in prison and 35 lashes for severely beating his 9-year-old disabled half brother." So a man - 12 years older than the boy - beats a disabled child and all he is getting in return is a month in prison? No. He deserves more time. And, he needs to have a restraining order against him for when he is released to not go near the child. Pick on someone your own size. Bully.

The members of the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice have been sacked. No names mentioned. Nationality is a given. They were fired for "violating regulations," whatever that means. Open to interpretation, I guess. The article says more may be fired, again, for "violating regulations." How many members are there? What is the pay? For some reason I was under the impression that this was a voluntary position with no compensation. Does anyone know?
