Is This Happier? Warm and Fuzzy???

This has to be shared. I know it isn't "my" Sandbox, but IT is right next door...

You just can't make this kind of stuff up!

The new session of Parliament in the Gulf state of Bahrain began this week with calls for a crackdown on gays.

Al Menbar MP Shaikh Mohammed Khalid Mohammed wants the government to begin a number of initiatives designed to rid the country of gay people.

"We have homosexual rates on the rise, with such people working in flower shops, massage parlours or barber's salons," he said.

"Sluts walk around residential neighbourhoods untouched."

In April Parliament demanded that the Interior Ministry stop granting any residence permits to foreign homosexuals.

Bahrain is known as one of the more tolerant Muslim nations in the Middle East, and has recently undergone a period of political liberalisation.

However, homosexuality remains a crime, and the government has periodically deported expatriates because of their sexual orientation.

Bahrain only held its first elections in 2002, and since then politicians have mainly addressed themselves to "moral" issues such as banning female mannequins from shop windows and tackling the widespread problem of "sorcery."

The bicameral parliament is dominated by Shia and Sunni Islamist parties.

Homosexuality has been considered illegal in Bahrain since 1956 when, as part of the British Empire, it was given the Indian Penal Code.

Homosexuals can be given up to 10 years in prison though this is rarely put into practice.

In 2002 the government deported 2,000 allegedly gay Filipino workers for homosexual activity and prostitution.

If they walk around untouched, are they really sluts? I was under the impression that slutting around involved touching at some point.

  5. I remember the little uproar this caused some months back when it was suggested by one MP that gays were screened at the airport and promptly deported...so everyone was wondering exactly how it could be determined if someone was gay if they didnt just come out and tell you....

I suggested that potential gays were lined up naked against the arrivals lounge wall...a naked hottie (male of course) was paraded in front of them...whoever "reacted" was deported at once...wtf? as if gays in Bahrain is the worst thing going on in this little corrupt island in the Gulf...gimme a break!

  7. What will they do about all of the "gay" locals, Coolreds? [I know, I know, it is only the gay expats that are causing the problem...]

  8. Glad you got comments to work, BW! I am not nearly as computer literate as one might think. I struggled just getting this blog going when I started a couple of years ago.

Also, glad you are enjoying my little space in the blogosphere!

Sabra....how dare you suggest there are local gays in Bahrain...are you crazy or just trying to spread fitna in the land...there is no such thing as a gay Muslim...for you to suggest such an outrageous slander can only mean one thing....your trying to destroy the ummah with your western thinking and corrupt immoral upbringing...let me repeat...there is no such thing as a gay Muslim Bahraini...now lets not bring that taboo subject up again...nuff said.

  10. So, you're saying, then, Coolreds, that Bahrain is the ONLY country in the world that doesn't have its own gay population, right? Right...

  11. for sure....just ask any MP or Wahhabi...we have no gays...we have confused western influenced misguided youth...but no gays...God forbid...homosexuality is a scourge of the western immoral psyche...Muslims are so far above all that immorality. We may beat our wives...kill our daughters...and maybe even collect women under assumed Islamic marriage principles...but we do not approach Broke Back Mountain types in thought or deed...as if!!!

    btw wink wink nod nod
