Sterling

...is gone. He left us last night. His back legs gave out and he could no longer get up. I knew it was time. Our lives will be so different without Sterling. He has crossed the bridge and gone on to meet friends he never knew. You were a fabulous companion Sterling. You made it through the entire seven years we spent in the Sandbox and you will never know how much I needed you then and you were there for me. You will be missed in so many ways, but so many great memories of you will live on with us forever! Rest in peace Big Boy.

  1. Oh I am so sorry Sabra. You can rest knowing you gave Sterling the best possible life and kept him as comfortable as possible, especially in the last few months. You will be in my thoughts.

  3. I'm terribly sorry. I remember all the puppies I've lost, and I miss them all, too. Maybe your's and mine are in a better place, sniffing each other's butts, chasing an endless supply of tennis balls, and enjoying the untrammeled delights of bacon-scented fire hydrants?

I figure if there's a Doggy Heaven, that's what they do up there. Which sounds far more exciting than our version, which involves floating on clouds and playing harps all day, so they say.

With any luck, your Sterling and my Clio are chasing squirrels together in the Great Canine Elysian Fields.

  5. Sterling is in a place where there is no pain. Where the doggie dishes are always full. Where chasing a rabbit, squirrel or cat is allow. And his favorite chew toy is NEVER under or behind the couch.

I feel for your loss and will keep you in my prayers.

  7. I know how much you loved "The Boy." He was with you through all the craziness in Saudi. He's your baby and it hurts like losing family. Take time to heal.

  9. I am so sorry for your loss, This is the poem we give to our clients when they lose a special friend.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

  20. Dear Beth, I am very sorry about Sterling.

I found your blog a few days ago. I found your daily interactions with the saudi society quite amusing. I always wondered how someone from a completely different culture will react to such a "culture shock". I am from Oman, and although we are next to Saudi, I will probably never be able to live there. Too restrictive and controlled.

I actually started reading from your first ever post in 2006 all the way to your latest. It took me a few days, but I did it. It made me a little bit more familiar with you, Saffrynn, Sterling, DH, Imon, Rev, Abbu, and every one that you blogged about. I am quite sad to see Sterling go.

I reached reading October 2010 and then you stopped posting. I have no idea what is happening, but I wish you all the best. I hope that someday you will come back to the blogging scene.

Please take care of yourself and I sincerely wish you success and happiness.

    Sincerely Yours,
    Tariq
