Wanna party like it's 1999? Not here.

Honestly I almost have some empathy for young people in The Sandbox. They have got to realize - what with television and the internet - and countries which are right next-door which are not quite like here - that the life they grow up in is not what is normal. Sure. It is normal, for here. That is all that this country has ever known, but it is not normal by standards of the outside world. Unless, of course, if you have been living under a rock and have no electricity. There is no having fun and partying. Ut-uh. No way. If you get caught - you're going to be severely punished. With lashes and jail time. Like these seven men and four women.

All of the party goers were adults, ranging in age between 18 and 37 years old. They were caught by police who "had kept the group of young men and women under surveillance for days before arresting them as they drove away from one of the 'debauched' late-night parties." There was booze involved - so of course they are in trouble for that, and they were in mixed company - so they are in trouble for that, too. They will all receive between 400 - 700 lashes and face jail sentences from 4 to 10 months. I am going to guess that there is no good time worth that kind of punishment. You want to party like it's 1999? You are going to have to go to Bahrain or Dubai.

[Shamelessly "borrowed" from WZ's place.]
