No Soup for You!

Not a big Seinfeld fan, but I vaguely remember the episode where the soup guy wouldn't sell his soup to Elaine. Which has absolutely nothing to do with Valentine's Day... Didn't realize it was tomorrow. Darn it. No time to get to the mall to buy DH a red teddy bear. [Neither of us are into the whole Valentine's Day thing. If DH were to get me roses on Valentine's Day I'd be wondering if he did something wrong. Really wrong.] Every year in The Sandbox we go through the same thing on Valentine's Day. No one is supposed to be selling anything red - flowers, teddy bears, or whatever, and the powers that be go to extremes to make sure of that. "The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice intensified its vigilance over flower, chocolate and gift shops to confiscate items related to Valentine's Day... the agency has instructions to eliminate any activities aimed at celebrating this event or sell products related to it." Sometimes the "cat and mouse" games that get played, here, are just amusing.

  1. Heaven forbid LOVE be promoted and encouraged over there.

Anyhow...who says you have to show your love with something red? Any color will do when its bought and wrapped with love. :)

  2. "Anyhow...who says you have to show your love with something red? Any color will do when its bought and wrapped with love." Sshhh! We don't want the "powers that be" knowing that, Coolred.

  3. lmao

here in Oman the newspapers tell everyone to show love towards loved ones, and you can buy teddy bears with hearts & flowers at the supermarket or wrapping paper with hearts on it.

of course it is called Valentine's day rather than St Valentine's day, but it's not a big nono here.

guess that's what the powers of commercialism & tolerance do for a country :-)

  5. I'd be curious how many other Middle Eastern countries are tolerant of it, Fred_Says. Ahh, yes. The powers of commercialism!
